Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Ur-Lenormand oracle deck and how is it different from a standard Lenormand deck?

A: The Ur-Lenormand oracle deck is a reproduction of the original 1799 "Das Spiel der Hoffnung" — the earliest known Lenormand-style card game. Unlike modern Lenormand decks that evolved over the 19th and 20th centuries, this deck retains the original 18th-century artwork and dual playing-card pip inserts, offering a historically authentic reading experience closer to the game's parlor origins.

Q: Do I need prior experience with oracle or tarot cards to use this deck?

A: No prior experience is required! The 36-card Lenormand system is often considered more approachable than a full 78-card tarot deck. Beginners can start with simple 3-card spreads, while experienced readers can dive into the expansive "Grand Tableau" using all 36 cards. The iconic imagery and playing card inserts also make it easy to cross-reference with traditional card meanings.

Q: What are the card dimensions, and is the deck suitable as a gift?

A: Each card measures 9 × 6 cm — a comfortable, standard oracle card size that's easy to handle and shuffle. The deck comes packaged in a custom vintage-style tuck box, making it a beautifully presented and distinctive gift for tarot enthusiasts, history lovers, collectors, or anyone curious about the art of cartomancy.

Q: Is this deck recommended for children?

A: This oracle deck is recommended for ages 14 and up, making it suitable for teenagers and adults who have an interest in cartomancy, history, or collecting unique card decks.
